BROWN VS BOARD OF EDUCATION
The U.S. Supreme Court case of Brown vs Board of Education was a combination of court cases from Kansas, Delaware, Washington D.C., South Carolina and Virginia. All of the court cases involved racial segregation in public schools. The NAACP worked to end segregation. Linda Brown was eight years old dealing with racial inequality, and her parents sued in order to give her equal rights. She was told she was not allowed to attend the nearest elementary school which was four blocks from her home, instead she had to attend the all black elementary school that stood a long 21 blocks from her home. The final decision of the ruling was to end segregation in the United States in public facilities. This brought hope to many African Americans in the 1950's on, and changed the lives of 12 million schoolchildren in 21 different states.
