SOuthern christian leadership council
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was founded in 1957 by Martin Luther King and civil rights leaders. The purpose of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference also known as the SCLC was to carry on nonviolent crusades against the evils of second class citizenship. Using African American churches as bases, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference planned to have protests and demonstrations throughout the south. The leaders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference had hoped to create a movement from the bottom up to win the support of African Americans everywhere. The SCLC was very influential with the help of Martin Luther King as the president. The SCLC used King’s powerful voice to fuel the movement.
