Taking on segregation
Segregation is defined as the separation of people on the basis of their race. Segregation was very common throughout the United States in the 1950’s and prior. States were either segregation required, segregation permitted, or segregation prohibited. Various states would have separate Whites and African Americans from doing anything together. African Americans and Whites were not able to uses the same drinking fountains, sit together on the bus, attend school together, and enter through the same door and many more things. Whites were known to be the superior race and if any of these laws were broken usually the African American would be at fault. The most common areas which were known for segregation were the southern states. Segregation did occur in the north as well but was rather brutal and occurred more in the south.
